Ron Wilson Meets the Bassists
Featuring Paul Thompson

In his “Meet the Bassist” series, guitarist Ron Wilson features some of Pittsburgh's finest acoustic bass musicians. The ensemble plays in the intimate "supper club" jazz style made popular during the 1950's by artists such as Jim Hall, Kenny Burrell, Ed Bickert and Barney Kessel.

Presented as a duo, trio, or quartet, with added drums and/or saxophone, be sure to stop in and enjoy these performances in various clubs around Pittsburgh.

Charlie Sanders at Nine on Nine

A Pittsburgh native, Charlie G. is a graduate of Duquesne University School of Music and specializes in jazz and jazz standards. He has entertained in some of the most popular clubs and restaurants int he area for nearly 30 years. Charlie G. hosts some of Pittsburgh's finest jazz talents each Monday at Savoy Restaurant in Pittsburgh's Strip District.

A member of SAG and AFTRA, he is also a prominent fixture in the acting community. He hosted his own television game show called "The Magic Touch", had credited parts in HBO's "Criminal Justice" and NBC's "Stuck with Each Other".

Bob Insko

Bob Insko

Robert Insko, bassist, performs locally with the “John Wilson Big Band”, “Catch 22”, Chuck Spatafore’s “Little Big Band”, and is is a member of the “Phoenix Jazz Project”, a sextet that has wowed audiences from Pittsburgh to Prague. Bob has performed locally with nationally-acclaimed jazz artists, Harry Connick, Jr., Rob McConnell, and Phil Woods, and travelled and performed professionally with “The Four Kinsmen”, “The Brooks Paxton Show ”, “The Temptations”, and “The Four Tops”. As well as being a Freelance Performer, Bob is a Music Teacher and Jazz Band Director with the Kiski Area Schools.

David Pellow

David Pellow

David Pellow has had a 20-year career studying and performing western classical and popular music, and is Director of Jazz Studies and Ensembles at the Carnegie Mellon preparatory school. Professionally Dave has toured the United States and Japan with various groups, performed at The Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and been in demand as an accompanist in performances and recordings. He has performed with Billy Eckstine, Mose Allison, Chris Connor, Diane Schurr, and Kenny Rankin.
